Rendell 'Sings' Praises of Stimulus Cash
Governor Rendell broke into song – almost – as he underscored the dilemma Pennsylvania faces when federal stimulus funds dry up next year.
KYW's Tony Romeo reports it appears Pennsylvania will be getting most of the federal money it was counting on but not all, and Governor Rendell will meet with legislative leaders this week to discuss how to close a budget gap he estimates at about a quarter billion dollars.
The governor would prefer to raise new revenue, not just cut spending or use one-time fixes, given the challenge the state will face next year, since more federal stimulus money is unlikely:
"We would need it, we're not going to get it. You know, there was great song – by the Doobie Brothers? – which began, it used to be the leadoff to the NCAA tournament, and it starts with the words, 'this is it… make no mistake about it.' [sic] This it, make no mistake about it. Was it the Doobie Brothers?"
No, actually, it was Kenny Loggins and we hope he will forgive us.
