Ed Rendell: Republicans Should Forget About White House, Focus On Senate
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell thinks Republicans cannot win the White House and should concentrate on saving the Senate after video was released on Friday showing Donald Trump making sexist comments before taping an appearance on a soap opera in 2005.
Rendell, during an interview with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said Donald Trump's performance in the second presidential debate was not enough to re-invigorate his campaign after weeks of negative press that culminated with the video.
"Given what happened on Friday, Donald Trump needed a home run in the debate and we can argue who won, again, the polls seem to think Clinton won, but he certainly didn't hit a home run."
However, Rendell does still believe Republicans can hold on to the Senate if they focus on races like Pat Toomey's here in Pennsylvania.
"I think Pat Toomey is salvagable. There's no question about it. I think that's still up in the air. I think the Senate is still up in the air but I don't see, and you know that I have always been who warns Democrats that this isn't over, but I don't think there's any way that Donald climbs back from this."
