Renaming Set For Abington Health Center To Honor Late Director

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) - A health clinic in Montgomery County, Pa. that helps uninsured children will be renamed tonight in honor of a local woman who left a large legacy in her community.

Tonight, in Abington, the Children's Clinic of the Visiting Nurses Association Inc. will be renamed the Ginny Coombs Children's Health Center as a tribute to Virginia Coombs, the executive director of VNA who died last April.

"Somebody would be coming in, she'd just come up and give them a big hug, and smile," recalls Rich Cirko, VNA's current executive director.  He says Coombs' special impact came in the association's "Personal Navigator" program, which helps individuals and families access the services they need.

"Ginny took on this program about four or five years ago," Cirko says, "and she was just so adamant about making sure that it was such a need in the community.  And we needed people to know that they could come to one place where they could get the services to help them remain independent in their community," he adds.
