Remorseful Donut Shop Patron Waives Hearing in West Philly Hot Coffee Incident

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A West Philadelphia man waived his preliminary hearing today in a high profile assault case where the weapon was hot coffee.
It was a brief court apperance for 52-year-old David Timbers, who is charged with aggravated assault and related counts, mainly for throwing hot coffee on a donut shop worker.
Outside the Criminal Justice Center, he told CBS 3 Eyewitness News:
"I made the biggest mistake of my life and I'm truly sorry for the physical pain I caused the victim as well as the emotional pain, and I just wish it never happened. But it did, and I'm truly, truly sorry to the victim."
The incident occured on May 8th at the Fresh Donuts shop near Lancaster Avenue and Spring Garden Street in West Philadelphia, during a dispute over whether Timbers had paid for something.
The employee suffered second-degree burns from the hot coffee (see related story and surveillance video).
Timbers surrendered several days later and was released on $25,000 bail (see related story). His next court date is June 20th.
