Reminder To Thanksgiving Dinner Guests: Don't Feed The Dog!
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pass the stuffing and a reminder to your Thanksgiving dinner guests -- don't feed the dog.
Most dog owners know to keep their pets away from poultry bones which could cause internal damage, and foods like chocolate and grapes and or raisins which could be potentially toxic for Fido.
But you need to make sure everyone at your holiday feast knows that, including children.
"Really just feeding any type of table scraps tend to potentially cause just either a GI upset with vomiting or diarrhea in dogs in particular or something more severe, like something called pancreatitis, which can be potentially fatal problems in dogs," Dr. Samantha Hart of Penn Vet's Ryan Hospital said.
And Dr. Hart says make sure pets stay clear of holiday flowers and plants, for they could cause problems too.
