Relax This Summer
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Memorial Day weekend is one of my favorite times of the year because it is a true symbol of the start of summer. And, although summer does not represent the months of freedom from work like it used to when I was in school, it still is a time of the year when it is very difficult to make up excuses not to find time to relax.
Each Memorial Day I talk about the importance of not drinking at cookouts and then taking the wheel of a car and I also stress the critical role of seatbelts and car seats in the event you come across a drunk driver and you are an innocent party in an alcohol fueled crash. But, this year I really want to take the time to talk about using the longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures as a time to be with your families, a time to exercise and a time to reduce stress.
Whatever business you are working in and whatever part of town you are from there is no running from the pressures of this economy. All of us need to understand that we need time to relax and enjoy life. It is crucial to use the summer to recharge your batteries.
