Refreezing Concerns As Crews Get Roads Ready For Morning Commute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Warmer weather Sunday melted some of the snow and ice that was dumped on the region Saturday. Meantime, PennDOT is preparing roads in the area for when temperatures drop below freezing overnight.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the teens, which will quickly freeze any of the snow or ice that melted Sunday.
"We'll have crews out monitoring the roads, looking for any refreezing overnight, especially bridges, ramps, elevated portions of the highways," explains PennDOT spokesman Brad Rudolph.
Rudolph expects the major roads to be in good shape, but there could still be some black ice out there:
"Drivers should be very careful and watch their speeds. It doesn't matter if you're in an SUV or a two-wheel drive, all wheel drive -- ice is the great neutralizer. You gotta be careful."
He says there are trucks on standby just in case conditions take a turn for the worse.
