Red Sox Hammer Halladay, Phils' Bats Sleep Against Wakefield
Roy Halladay had his shortest outing of the season, and the Phillies needed 3-run ninth to snap a 19-inning scoreless drought as the Red Sox posted an 8-3 win Sunday to take the final two games of the three game weekend set at Citizens Bank Park. After throwing 132 pitches in a complete game loss to Pittsburgh, Halladay (6-3) lasted 5-2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits with just one strikeout. Nemesis Kevin Youkilis, who entered the game hitting .352 against Halladay, tripled and homered off the Phillies ace before Chad Durbin came on in the sixth. Halladay is now 14-15 lifetime against Boston, one of just two American League teams against which he does not have a winning record. It was Halladay's shortest stint since August 19 of 2009 went he went five innings for Toronto against . . . the Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Phillies offense managed just five hits in eight scoreless innings against Boston starter Tim Wakefield (1-2), who improved to 2-1 against Philadelphia in five interleague starts, and broke a stretch of nine starts without a win. The Phils touched Ramon Martinez for three runs in the ninth on a an rbi double by Raul Ibanez and a Ross Gload pinch hit two-run homer. The first place Phillies fall to 26-17.
