Red Cross Ready To Assist Over 20,000 Across The Region

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Red Cross says they are prepared to assist 26-thousand people in the region during Hurricane Sandy. They're urging families to not take the storm lightly.
Red Cross trucks are stationed throughout the Delaware Valley, ready to set up shelters quickly. Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter CEO Rene Hughes says they're ready for the worst and the public should be too.
"Families should not ignore this. This is extremely serious."
She says blankets, flashlights, gallons of water and non-perishable food are must haves.
"Peanut butter, tuna and soup. I know it sounds horrible but soup can be eaten at room temperature. If you don't get the pop-top cans, make sure you have a manual can opener because we may not have power."
The Red Cross also says you should know where your critical documents are, like insurance policies and prescriptions. And battery powered radios and the Red Cross hurricane app (download app here) to know when and where shelters are available if needed.
