Red Cross Launches App For Hurricane Information
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The American Red Cross has rolled out a new app for iPhone and Android.
Dave Schraeder with the southeastern Chapter of the American Red Cross says it's all about hurricanes.
"And basically this app gives them all kinds of information. First, you can track the hurricane as it comes up the coast or towards your area. You can track the storm in someone else's area. It gives you tips on what to do before, what to do when it hits and what to do after it hits," Schraeder said. "You can go on there and tell people you're safe; you can update your Facebook and Twitter status directly from this app."
Schraeder says to get the free app, do a search for "Red Cross hurricanes" and it will pop right up:
"Hurricane season goes from June 1st through November 30th so we're sort of in the heart of it. This is the busiest time, typically during hurricane season is during August through the end of September."
And he points out if you're planning a Caribbean vacation during that time frame, you might want to sign up for the free hurricane alerts ahead of time.
