Red Cross Fundraising Blitz Continues For Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Red Cross fundraising blitz continued in high gear on Tuesday in its effort to handle everyone who was displaced during Hurricane Sandy.
Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes, CEO of the local American Red Cross, says it's the largest local relief effort in five years. Red Cross officials are everywhere raising money to feed, clothe and shelter victims of the storm.
So far, the organization has served more than 1.5-million meals and snacks to victims of Sandy.
"On Sunday," Hughes says, "I spent $7,000 on groceries to make sure families wouldn't be hungry on Sunday afternoon.
Hughes says those displaced by the superstorm will need assistance for a long time, but she says at the same time the Red Cross will be helping victims of other catastrophes.
"We're responding to Hurricane Sandy and that deserves all the media attention it's getting," she says, "but our volunteers are still going out every single night responding to fires and building collapses and anything else our community needs.
