Philadelphia Weather: Freezing Temperatures Set New Record-Low In Philadelphia, Surrounding Areas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- The Delaware Valley woke up to a deep freeze Wednesday morning after seeing the season's first snowflakes yesterday. The temperature dropped to 23 degrees in Philadelphia, breaking a record-low for Nov. 13 that had been set in 1996.
Surrounding areas also broke or tied record-low temperatures.
Most residents in Upper Darby were bundled up from head to toe as they grabbed their morning coffee from a local Wawa but one man was caught wearing a t-shirt.
"I get out of the car in shorts to go to the gym and they're like, 'This guys crazy, he's out here in shorts,' and I'm like I'm going to be warm in about 10 seconds so we're all good," Bill Boyce said.
Tuesday's snow broke records in Wilmington, Delaware and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Those areas don't normally see the first measurable snowfall until mid December.
Wednesday afternoon is expected to be windy and cold in the mid 30s, even with sunny skies.
The forecast high of 35 degrees in Philadelphia would tie the coldest record-high temperature for today -- a record set in 1911.
Winds will remain breezy throughout the afternoon and wind chills should hover in the teens and low 20s and could be as low as the single digits at times in the northern areas up into the Northern Lehigh Valley and Poconos.
Watch for another very cold night with lows again dropping into the 20s or lower in spots before the 40s take over on Thursday afternoon. We should then continue to rebound closer to average on Friday afternoon as we reach back into the 50s.
A low pressure system will then start to form over the weekend and eventually ride north up the eastern coastline.
Exact impacts across the region over the weekend are still coming together, but at this time we should look for a few scattered rain showers, mainly across South Jersey and the shore points with strong winds picking up along the immediate coast as well.
