Recent Survey Shows Despite High Price Of Gasoline, Area Residents Are Up For Traveling

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Even though gas prices are on the decline, gas costs about a dollar more per gallon than it did last year. And according to a recent survey, the high prices are affecting summer travel plans.

TripAdvisor.com an online travel website - just released a survey stating that travel is up this weekend despite higher gas prices.

Josey Miller, TripAdvisor.com's travel expert, says the only difference from last year is that more folks are staying closer to home.

"Almost 25 percent of travelers on Trip Adviser say they won't travel farther than 200 miles because of the gas prices," says Miller.

The survey shows that more Philadelphians will check out the sights right here.

"There is a lot of stuff to do in the Philadelphia area that you may not have thought about doing."

Miller says the top three destinations near Philadelphia are Cape May, New Jersey, Annapolis, Maryland and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
