'Real' Champ At The Box Office
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The weekend's two new mainstream attractions led the way at the box office over the weekend. Make that boxing office.
The boxing-robots sci-fi thriller, Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman, took the top spot, earning an estimated $27-million on its opening weekend.
The Ides of March, the debuting political drama directed by George Clooney, who co-stars opposite Ryan Gosling, finished second with a modest but respectable total of $10-million.
Third place went to last weekend's leader, Dolphin Tale. It took in another $9-million.
Holdovers Moneyball and 50/50 rounded out the top five with $7 and $5-million, respectively.
Overall, industry-wide totals were on par with the counterpart weekend a year ago.
