Re-Designed iPods Lost Amid Big iPhone 5 Announcement

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Somewhat lost amid Apple's big iPhone announcement this past week were re-designed iPods which were also unveiled. They're coming out next month.

The new iPods come with Apple's signature white headphones, which also have been re-jigged.

"They're definitely an improvement over the older ear buds, simply because they aren't flat, so they fit in your ear better," says Darren Murph, managing editor at Engadget.com.

Murph says the flagship iPod touch can do almost everything the iPhone 5 can do, except make calls.

"They made the graphics faster, so if you just love portable gaming, this is a great alternative. In my ideal world, they would put a cellular radio in there so you can take a photo with your iPod touch and throw it up on Instagram just like a phone. But that would get a little too close to the iPhone in terms of cannibalization," Murph explains.

New colors have been added, too, including pink, yellow, and blue. The 32GB model is $299.

The revamped Nano gets a larger, 2.5" display, Bluetooth for streaming tunes, and it lets you pause and rewind FM radio. They start at $150 for 16GB.

The tiny Shuffle also sees new hues.

Like the iPhone 5, these iPods have a smaller dock connector, so only some of your current accessories will work; for the ones that do, you'll need to buy an adapter.
