Ramsey Says Officer Will Be Fired For Boozing In Uniform
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia police officer is losing his job after authorities say he was drinking on duty.
Patrolman William Haviland, 42, is being fired after he was seen in a bar Sunday night, drinking in uniform and on duty. Haviland is a seven-year veteran of the force, but police commissioner Charles Ramsey says Haviland was temporarily shifted to a civilian job, after a previous charge:
"He was arrested in Bensalem about two years ago, off duty, on a DUI."
But Ramsey says Haviland failed a Breathalyzer after Sunday's incident:
"And now, while on duty, he goes out and he does this. So I immediately put him on a 30-day suspension pending separation. He doesn't deserve to be a police officer."
