Ramsey: Internal Affairs Is Investigating Police Involved Shootings
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey says the investigation is underway into two separate police-involved shootings last night, that left two men dead.
Authorities say, in both incidents, there was a foot chase and then the suspects allegedly pulled guns and pointed them at police. The first happened around 6:30 yesterday on the 5600 block of Haverford Avenue, the second around 9pm at Locust Avenue and Devon Street in Germantown.
The suspects in each case were shot and killed, sparking anger in the neighborhoods where the incidents happened.
"We do take it very seriously," Commissioner Ramsey said. "We can't bring an individual back, obviously, but we need a very thorough, complete investigation independent of us."
Ramsey stresses that there's too much gun violence in the city.
"And who do you think gets sent into all that violence, it's the police officers. It's unfortunate when these things happen."
As per standard procedure, during those investigations, the officers involved will be on desk duty.
