Rally Held In Center City To Show Support For Protests In Egypt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dozens of people rallied on the corner of 6th and Market Streets in front of the federal courthouse last night to voice their support for the people of Egypt and against President Hosni Mubarek.
Egytpian nationals and their supporters chanted for the freedom of the Egyptian people as cars honked as they passed by.
Ramy Hassan, who spent the first ten years of his life, says this is an historic time for Egypt and the Middle East, "The people are trying to extract themselves from the yoke of dictatorial and oppressive regimes that have ruled the Egyptian people. In the case of Mubarek, and before him (Anwar El) Sadat, and before him Gabar Abdul Nasser, this is a military dictatorship that has repressed and oppressed the people for over three decades."
He says these people in Philadelphia cannot be in Cairo, but they stand with them in their goal to rule themselves, and in their struggle to end human rights violations for the Egyptian people.
