2 Raccoons Killed By Family Dogs In South Jersey Confirmed Infected With Rabies

HADDON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- The Camden County Health Department says state health officials have confirmed that a raccoon killed by a family dog in Haddon Township last week has tested positive for rabies.
Officials say the dog killed the raccoon in a yard last Tuesday, February 3rd. The animal was handed over to the state health lab in Trenton for testing. The lab confirmed the raccoon was infected.
County and state health officials have not released the names or address of the owners of the dog. However, they say the dog was current with its rabies shots and received a booster from a veterinarian.
State regulations require the dog be quarantined and observed for 45 days after contact with the rabid raccoon.
Two days earlier on February 1st, a family dog killed a raccoon in the yard of a Camden City home.
That dog was not up-to-date with its rabies vaccinations, but has now received the required shots.
