Quick Guilty Verdict In 2011 Fatal Nicetown Bar Shooting
By Tony Hanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia man was convicted today in connection with a fatal 2011 shooting inside a crowded Nicetown bar.
The jury deliberated little more than an hour before finding defendant Wayne James, 47, guilty of all charges against him including first-degree murder.
James was kicked out of the "Genesis" bar for smoking, but returned a short time later with a handgun and began shooting wildly from just outside the front door of the bar.
The crime was caught on several video cameras, showing some victims dropping as the shooting began while other bar patrons scrambled for their lives. One man was killed and six other people wounded. The murdered man had stopped in to purchase some takeout food and didn't even have a drink; he was shot in the head and died on the spot.
James, who defended himself, showed no reaction after the verdict was announced by the jury forewoman. He was immediately sentenced to life in prison.
