Pulse Of Philly Podcast: Eagles Already Better Than Last Year

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Some are deeming Wednesday as Eagles Armageddon.

After Nick Foles was traded to the Rams for Sam Bradford Tuesday afternoon, Philly went bananas. The 94WIP Morning Show took a record 64 phone calls Wednesday morning, some of which called for the firing of Chip Kelly. The polls showed the vast majority of Eagles fans no longer trust Chip Kelly and hate the Foles-Bradford deal.

"It was like I was married to a super model for two years and at 4:30 yesterday I walked into the room and she's in bed with the mailman!" One 94WIP caller said on Wednesday morning.

Thursday, on the Pulse Of Philly podcast, CBSPhilly.com Sports Editor Andrew Porter and co-host Scott Kret attempted to calm everyone down. Porter proclaimed that he is still driving the proverbial Chip Bus, or hoverboat, if you insist.

"People are starting to climb back on the bus," Porter said. "Should we let them back on the bus?"

Taking it one-step further, Porter and Kret evaluted the current roster and agreed that the Eagles are already better right than they were at the end of last season---even before the draft.

"Eagles secondary is already vastly improved," Porter said. "Eagles linebacker corps, vastly improved. Defensive line, the same. Offensive line, it's the same. They weren't healthy last year, so now you get four guys hopefully healthy.

"Offensive-line I think is poised to be a top-five unit," Kret added.

"Tight-end," Porter continued, "I think is an ascending position for the Eagles, with Zach Ertz and Brent Celek.

"Quarterback, you go from Foles to Bradford. I'll just say unsure for now. Question mark there. Potential to be better though, we can say that.

"Running back, let's say they do get DeMarco Murray running back is better. If they don't get Murray, it's slightly worse?"

"Yeah slightly worse," Kret said, "But if they get someone in the draft then it might be better."

"Wide receiver is way worse, that's in arguable," Porter said. "Hopefully they address that in the draft. So before the draft, on March 12th, we're pretty much safely saying---and inarguable really---that they're better everywhere except for running back, pending DeMarco Murray, and receiver."
