Psychologist Guides Philadelphians From Simply Surviving, To Thriving

Pax Tandon is an expert in Positive Psychology, which is "the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive." She holds a master's degree in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and also graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a dual degree in Psychology from the college. The field of Positive Psychology is founded on the belief that "people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work and play."

Where did you get your degree?

"I have a master's degree in Positive Psychology from The University of Pennsylvania. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Wharton, and a Bachelor of Psychology from The College of The University of Pennsylvania."

Can you describe your duties as a Psychologist?

"As a Positive Psychology expert and coach, I focus on guiding people from simply surviving to thriving. I take a holistic approach, focusing on the mind, body and soul. This integrates the latest academic research in the science of Positive Psychology, best practices in mindfulness and meditation, fundamentals of yoga (in which I am also a certified teacher), diet and nutrition, and any other elements I feel best serve my clients.

Outside of actual client work, my learning never stops. I attend all of the largest and most important conferences in my field, lectures, presentations, high-octane brainstorming sessions, meet-ups and any other forums to glean the most relevant and robust knowledge and material to bring back to my practice and those that I serve.

I have a strong background in television and online media, and see this sector as one of the most powerful for the dispersion of information. Thus, I focus a great deal of my time on writing and curating online and television content which is instructive, entertaining and real. I also sit on many high-profile panels to lend my voice to discussions around mental health and wellness."

What advice would you give someone who is pursuing a career in Psychology?

"Know your purpose. Hone in on what you love about the field, why you are passionate about the subject and how you can parlay that into your service of others. Then, understand business! Whether you run your own practice, work within someone else's or some other hybrid, business skills will help you stay financially secure, will teach you how to leverage and grow, how to capitalize on your assets, the importance of cash flow as a business owner, and so much more."
