PSU: WR Kersey Leaves Team For Personal Reasons
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State's offense is down another receiver after junior Shawney Kersey left the team.
Coach Bill O'Brien announced Wednesday via the program's Twitter account that Kersey left the Nittany Lions for personal reasons. A team spokesman said Kersey remains enrolled in school.
Kersey was the third-leading receiver through two games in Penn State's revamped offense with six catches for 44 yards. He caught just one pass for nine yards in last week's 17-16 loss to Virginia.
Kersey had been Penn State's leading returning wideout from 2011 with five catches following the transfer of Justin Brown to Oklahoma and the offseason departure of Devon Smith, who has since transferred to Marshall.
But sophomore Allen Robinson has stepped up as the featured receiver with 19 catches for 186 yards and a score.
