PSU Club Uses Technology To Make Prosthetics For Kids

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new club at Penn State University is using 3D printers to make prosthetics for children in need.
The club is called "DigiDigits."
Junior Tyler Corbley of Holland, Bucks County says students in technology, architecture and other majors started raising funds a few weeks ago:
"Say, like a kid wants something specific, we will be able to keep producing different test models and finally come up with a hand that's perfect for them."
The club is working with 10-year-old Colin now.
"He's got partial fingers," explains Corbley, "so he can kinda close and hold things, but he's severely limited, so we're producing kind of like a glove for him that kind of extends his fingers to a regular length."
Making prosthetics with a 3D printer is inexpensive and allows the models to grow as the child grows.
Fundraising continues through October 18th.
