Protesters At City Hall Call On City Council To End Summer Recess

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Education advocates are calling on City Council to end their summer recess to find more money for Philadelphia's beleaguered school system.
"SOS! Save our schools!"
At a City Hall rally Tuesday afternoon, members of the Philadelphia Coalition Advocating for Public Schools had a simple message:
"Council needs to get back to work."
Ron Whitehorne is the co-chair of PCAPS' funding task force. He says money in the just-approved state budget falls way short.
"We're still headed for a disaster in September," Whitehorne says.
He also says Council needs to reconvene to find more cash.
"The 'Doomsday' scenario isn't too strong a term. I mean, we're looking at schools that in no sense will be educational institutions. They'll be warehousing students," Whitehorne explains.
Whitehorne says if teachers make more concessions, it'll have an impact in the classroom.
