Protest Of Cobbs Creek Shooting Interrupts Police Presser On Hybrid Cars
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A protest over a police-involved shooting in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia, last week, interrupted what was to have been a news conference on Monday showing off the police department's new hybrid vehicles.
"We have a question. Black Lives Matter has a question"
Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Coulter was in the midst of answering reporters questions about the new, rechargeable electric cars, when Asa Khalif approached with a bullhorn.
"109 shots to take down a suspect and you're here talking about a car?"
Khalif was with Greg Brinkley, who wore a surgical mask to protect himself, he said, from "contagious gunfire" which is how Commissioner Richard Ross had described the fusillade fired by nine officers, last Wednesday, confronting a man who'd stabbed his 12-year-old son, the son's friend and an elderly woman.
Coulter promised a thorough investigation.
"If we find anything we could have done better, we're going to work to do better every step moving forward," he said.
Mayor Jim Kenney listened to their grievances and promised action.
I appreciate your being here and expressing those concerns," the mayor said. "I think they're legitimate concerns, and we'll get to the bottom of everything that happened."
The men promised to keep the pressure up -- even expand protests -- until they get answers.
