Pro Soccer: Philadelphia Union Savoring 2-0 Start

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) - Last year it took the Philadelphia Union until May 29th to win their second MLS match of the season.  Now, in the team's second year of existence, Philadelphia has picked up two wins in its first two matches.

After winning in Houston to open the campaign, Philadelphia shut out expansion Vancouver in Chester 1-0 this past Saturday, leaving them at the top of the Eastern Conference standings for the first time in franchise history.

Forward Jack McInerney says these are fun days for the Union.

"Feels great," he told KYW Newsradio.  "We got a good away win in Houston.  Tough match, but we got a win out of it, and we come home to the fans for the home opener and can't ask for much more."

While the Union has added some key veteran talent like goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon and forward Carlos Ruiz (see previous story), they still have a ton of young standouts like 19-year-old forward Danny Mwanga, 19-year-old midfielder Roger Torres, and McInerney, 18, who talks about how things are coming a little bit easier to him here in his second year in MLS:

"First it was tough coming in and adjusting to the life.  But I got used to it and some of the older guys have helped me out and helped me adjust to it, and that year just makes a whole lot of difference."

The Union will try to make it three straight wins to start the season on Saturday, when they visit the Los Angeles Galaxy.
