Pritchett Prepares to Step Down as Rutgers-Camden Chancellor
By Mike DeNardo
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- The chancellor at the Camden campus of Rutgers University has announced that he is stepping down after this academic year.
Wendell Pritchett made the announcement this morning at a faculty breakfast that he'll be returning to the Rutgers-Camden faculty next July.
Pritchett says in his four-plus years as chancellor, enrollment grew from 5,600 to 6,800, and he's most proud of graduating a record 1,500 students last May -- all while establishing deeper roots in Camden.
"We've built several new buildings," he said today. "We've renovated a significant number of buildings on Cooper Street, which is the main spine of the campus at this point. So I think we have expanded our profile physically. But I think, more importantly, we've expanded our profile in the community in connection to the city of Camden."
He says last year's successful effort to fight a proposed merger with Rowan University brought the Rutgers-Camden campus together.
Pritchett also serves on Philadelphia's School Reform Commission (see related story) and a member of the board of trustees at Cooper University Hospital.
