Print Version Of 'The Onion' Coming To Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The newspaper dubbed "the funniest publication in America" will now be available in Philadelphia.
A headline in The Onion may read something like, "State Department asks U.S. Citizens in Libya What the Heck They Were Doing in Libya."
The newspaper is purely satire but COO Mike McAvoy says, "I think in everything The Onion writes, there's a kernel of truth and it's a truth that's not always written."
Thus, the day after Barack Obama was elected, The Onion's headline was "Black Man Given Nation's Worst Job." McAvoy says they don't worry about offending readers.
"We try to be objective and there are no sacred cows."
The Onion already has an audience here. McAvoy says Philadelphia is one of the online edition's top markets, so it struck a deal to distribute 40,000 copies of the print edition-- making Philadelphia the ninth city where the onion is available on paper.
