Princeton University Offering Up Free Homes -- With A Catch
PRINCETON, NJ (CBS) – Princeton University is offering a deal -- or a steal -- to potential homeowners.
The university plans to demolish a row of homes on the 100 block of Alexander Street as it prepares for the construction of its $300 million Arts & Transit neighborhood.
But before the wrecking balls come in, they're offering the houses up to the public – for free.
There is, however, one catch: Anyone who wants a house has to pay to have it moved.
Still, moving a house is a lot cheaper than building a new one. The average cost to move a home can range from $20,000 to $70,000.
If you're interested in getting a free home, contact the Princeton University Office of Community and Regional Affairs at (609) 258-3204 or email pucra@princeton.edu.
The houses must be moved by spring, or they'll be demolished.
