Prince Of Peace Baptist Church In Strawberry Mansion Reopens After Three Years
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Prince of Peace Baptist Church in Strawberry Mansion, which lost its building in a devastating fire three years ago, will begin holding services in its brand new building as early as next Sunday.
A huge modern state of the art kitchen is just one of the highlights of the new Prince of Peace Baptist Church building, built on the same property where a devastating seven-alarm fire destroyed the old edifice in April of 2008.
Church member Pamela Gray says there's anticipation all around. "It's like surreal sometimes, watching it go up."
Pastor Robert Shipman says, although the new building is smaller, it is much more efficient, with more multi purpose rooms to ramp up the Church's outreach into the community.
"The community has come out and shown some appreciation for what we have done and they, like we are, are anticipating a bit more effectiveness in what we've done for the future."
