Price Of Philly Papers Going Up
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The newstand price of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News will be going up at the end of the month.
Company CEO Greg Osberg told staffers in the newsroom that the 25-cent increase, from 75 cents to $1 will support "content and design enhancements."
The Newspaper Association of America says nearly half of its member newspapers charge 75-cents, 43 percent charge 50-cents, and only six percent charge a dollar per copy. The NAA represents 2,000 papers across the country.
The vice president of external affairs at the Inquirer and Daily News, Mark Block says consumers still have choices:
"It does not include home delivery," Block said. "It does not include the Sunday Edition - the Sunday Edition being home delivery or on the newstand."
A spokesman for the NAA says the papers' circulation could be hit, especially among marginal readers. But then again, he says more folks might migrate to home deliveries.
