Preview Of '60 Minute' Interview With Navy Seal Who Helped Kill Bin Laden
By Jericka Duncan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The former Navy Seal who helped kill Osama Bin Laden describes in great detail what happened in his first interview with CBS Evening News Anchor Scott Pelley. The piece will air Sunday, September 09 on 60 Minutes.
The entire hour of 60 Minutes will cover the former Navy Seal's new book, his claims about what led to the killing of bin laden and why he felt compelled to share this story with the world.
His pen name is "Mark Owen." A former Navy Seal who wrote a book titled No Easy Day about the night "Seal Team Six" converged on Osama Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan last May.
Owen told CBS Evening News Anchor Scott Pelley the mission was to capture Bin Laden, if feasible, never to assassinate him. Bin Laden was killed and Owen says he was responsible for taking pictures as proof.
"I figured these were probably the most important photos I'd ever take in my life, so you know, make sure I do it right, get good angles, and all this other stuff," commented Owen.
While much has already been disclosed about the raid the publisher of the book quotes Owen as writing:
"It is time to set the record straight about one of the most important missions in U.S. Military history. No easy day is the story of the guys, the human toll we pay and the sacrifice we make to do this dirty job."
A spokesperson from the pentagon called Owen's book, incredible. Pentagon officials have expressed concern that Owen may have released sensitive information.
Normally, a book like Owen's is submitted to the government for review but that didn't happen.
