President Obama To Visit Jersey Shore With Gov. Christie On Tuesday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) - CBS 3 has learned that President Barack Obama will visit the Jersey Shore on Tuesday with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to view recovery from Hurricane Sandy.
It will be the President's first time on the shore since his visit on October 31, right after Hurricane Sandy hit (see previous story). President Obama took a helicopter tour along the battered New Jersey coastline and toured Brigantine.
A White House advisory said the President would view the ongoing recovery efforts from Sandy and talk about "expanding economic opportunity for families hit by the storm."
He plans to meet with business and home owners who have benefited from the recovery.
Obama and Christie were a picture of bipartisanship after Sandy hit in October.
The federal government has spent $1.3 billion to assist families directly victimized by the storm. The government has set aside more than $1 billion to help rebuilding efforts in states and $5.4 billion to help longer-term recovery efforts in the affected states.
