NEW YORK (CBS) –- President Barack Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney traded in their campaign gloves Thursday night for some laughs at the Al Smith Charity Dinner, which is organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan sat between the two, and both President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney had the entire room laughing, as they poked fun at themselves, and each other.
"I'm still making the most of my time in the city," said President Obama, "earlier today I went shopping stores at stores in Midtown. I understand Governor Romney went shopping, for some stores in Midtown."
Governor Romney also got the crowd going. "As President Obama surveys the Waldorf Banquet room, with everyone in white tie and finery, you have to wonder what he's thinking, so little time, so much to redistribute!"
President Obama also got a shot of star power Thursday when Bruce Springsteen put on a show for hundreds of Obama supporters, at the get-out-the-vote rally in Ohio. He was joined by Bill Clinton.
It's back to work for the candidates Friday. President Obama is campaigning in Virginia, and Governor Romney will head to Florida with Paul Ryan. Both will be back together for the final presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida on Monday.
