President Obama Signs Emergency Declaration For Florida Ahead Of Hurricane
FLORIDA (CBS) -- President Obama signed an emergency declaration for Florida and ordered federal aid to supplement state, tribal and local response efforts due to conditions resulting from Hurricane Matthew.
Florida Could Be Hit Twice By Hurricane Matthew
The President's action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts.
The purpose of the declaration is to alleviate the hardship caused by the emergency on the local population.
Many Flights To Florida Cancelled Due To Hurricane Matthew
FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency in Florida.
Hurricane Matthew is currently a Category 4 hurricane.
