Preparations Underway in Phila. and Camden For New Year's Fireworks Shows

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For the 24th consecutive year, fireworks will herald the arrival of the new year along the Delaware waterfront.
Thousands make a trip to Penn's Landing, on the Philadelphia side of the river, or Wiggins Park, in Camden, for the New Year's Eve tradition: viewing the huge fireworks display.
Jodie Milkman, of the Delaware River Waterfront Corp., says you will have two opportunities to see fireworks.
"Two different shows, at 6pm and midnight," she tells KYW Newsradio, "both with their own soundtrack. So you definitely want to come down to see at least one -- and, ideally, both."
She notes that over the Delaware River they are able to use very large fireworks shells, so the display is visible for miles.
The soundtrack will be piped live onto Penn's Landing and Wiggins Park. At other locations, bring a radio to hear the coordinated soundtrack as it airs live on KYW Newsradio 1060.
Milkman says this is only the sixth year for the 6pm show, and that one is growing in popularity.
"We realize it has as diverse an audience as the midnight show," she notes. "There are plenty of people that like to come out early, celebrate early, and be somewhere else at midnight."
And, she adds, the public celebrations being offered are also diverse, with family parties at Independence Seaport Museum and the Blue Cross Riverrink Winterfest, or across the river in Camden at the Adventure Aquarium or on board the Battleship New Jersey.
