Prep For Next Phase Of I-95 Construction Begins
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Preparations for a new traffic pattern begin this morning on I-95 as the next phase of construction begins between Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue.
This is phase four of six of this project which is rebuilding and widening I-95 near Girard. Crews were working on the northbound lanes overnight.
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says motorists will now find the work zone here on the northbound side has been extended to about two miles, "And they'll find themselves in a bit of a new pattern. The three northbound lanes shifted to the right. There will be construction barrels to the left of the three travel lanes initially."
During the overnight hours this week, they'll replace those barrels and cones on the left with a cement barrier.
The lanes are also narrowed from 12-feet down to 11-feet, but they did a good job repainting these lines so you may not even notice.
Then next week, they'll shift the southbound lanes so they can work in the center lanes. That's expected to finished next spring, and then they'll shift the work from the inside lanes to the outside.
