Prancing, Dancing And Strutting In Preparation For New Year's Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Mummers are spending this week prepping for the parade on New Year's Day.
There was dancing, prancing and whole lot of strutting at the Murphy Comic Club Recreation Center on Shunk Street in South Philadelphia. Golden Slipper New Years Brigade has been working to get their groove right for two months.
"The beginning song is the old Vanilla Ice song, "Ice Ice Baby." Then we'll do the typical song, "Hot, Hot, Hot" and do a conga line," says Captain Anthony Mazzone, the creative force behind this year's routine.
"The theme (this year) is "Golden Slipper Presents Hot and Chilli Peppers." We're going to have some that'll be in sombreros and they're going to be hot. Then we'll have some that are going to be wearing wool hats and scarves that are going to be cold."
He says he loves marching in the parade because it's a great way to be with friends and family.
"We started our own brigade back in 1989 with uncles and cousins. We started out with 25 people and we've grown to 112."
Mazonne's 18-year-old daughter Marina will be strutting alongside her dad:
"This is my 12th year. In 2000, the Golden Slipper allowed the girls in."
Mazonne says you will recognize the golden slippers by their sombreros on New Year's Day.
Mazzone says the Comic Slippers boast a roster of more than 112 people.
