PPA Warns Of Stricter Enforcement During DNC
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Center City will have a higher than normal volume of people and vehicles during the week of the Democratic National Convention, and the Philadelphia Parking Authority is reminding drivers to pay attention to posted signs if they want to avoid getting ticketed or towed.
With more congestion, comes more enforcement.
"We're going to have thousands of visitors here, everybody looking to have a good time," said Rick Dickson, Deputy Executive Director for the PPA. "We want to make sure that we do everything we can to ensure that we have both vehicle and pedestrian safety."
Dickson says they will allocate additional enforcement officers to high traffic areas.
"We'll be placing special emphasis on violations that create safety hazards," he said, "such as double parking, parking too close to a corner or crosswalk."
And there will be strict enforcement of the rule prohibiting deliveries after 11 a.m. on Chestnut and Walnut Streets in the shopping district.
There's no plan to bring in extra PPA officers for the week, but Dickson says they will likely redistribute the crew to ensure Center City is well patrolled.
