PPA Warns Of Email Scam Regarding Fake Tickets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fraud scam which demands payment for overdue Philadelphia parking violations is now circulating by way of email.
The email purporting to be from the "Parking Violations Bureau" claims to show the recipient has an unpaid Philadelphia parking violation which can be satisfied by simply clicking on a payment link.
The Philadelphia Parking Authority's Rick Dickson says, don't do it.
"The Philadelphia Parking Authority does not solicit payments for any parking ticket via email. The only notifications will come through the United States mail," said Dickson.
Dickson says if you legitimately get a ticket or have an overdue ticket and receive an official notice through the mail, there are legitimate links to pay the fine.
"No one should pay tickets other than through the authorized sites at phila.gov or philapark.org."
Dickson stressed the parking authority's computers were not hacked and all data and information is secure.
