Powerball Winner Yet To Come Forward To Claim Prize
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) — This weekend's Powerball was the 6th largest jackpot in the games history...429.6 million dollars!
New Jersey lottery executive Carole Hedinger says it remains a mystery as to who won the winning Powerball jackpot.
"We find that people generally wait a while before they come in and claim a winning ticket, it's unusual for them to claim immediately," she said.
"Whoever you are, please come forward, bring us that ticket and let us keep it safe for you."
The winner bought the ticket at a 7-11 in Trenton on Chambers Street. Andrea Shin is the owner and wins $30,000 in a commission bonus.
"Hopefully they do take their time to get their ducks in a row, because I know this probably overwhelming for them, I can only imagine. It's overwhelming for us," Shin said.
Shin says she and her husband haven't thought much of what they will do with their winnings, but will probably take a trip someone. She says she's just happy it was someone in her community who won.
"I am so happy. I just hope it brings something positive to their life. It's great for the Trenton community to just have something positive going on," Shin said. "I think everyone is just excited for the winner, whoever that may be."
The winner has one year to claim their prize. If they take the cash payout, they will get $284 million dollars, the largest in state history.
