Pottstown Dance Group To Perform In London

POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) – Twenty-two dancers from a Pottstown Dance Academy have the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in London during the Olympics.
Two years ago, Michelle Wurtz, owner and artistic Director of the Pottstown Dance Theater, received a letter from the American Association of Performing Arts Educators with an invitation. After checking to make sure it was the real deal, a lot of fundraising and planning began.
Wurtz is travelling with 22 dancers ages 13 to 18.
"We're doing a piece called "The Evolution of Dance," which begins with African Dance, then goes to Ballet then Modern, then some Irish Step, musical theater tap and jazz, 80's jazz, hip-hop, break-dancing and we finish with a big finale called "Time Trip."
The stage where they will perform is set up on Garden Island in the middle of the Thames. It took a lot of practice and fundraising to get to this point.
Thirteen-year-old Katie Schall thinks it's appropriate dancers will be there.
"Lots of people have told me that dance is not a sport and I totally tell people different. It's a sport that uses every single muscle in your body. It is a great way to express yourself," Schall explained.
Schall says it's a once in a lifetime trip, and she's determined to enjoy every minute of it.
The group leaves for London Monday night.
