Positively Philadelphia: 'Women of Beer' Breast Cancer Awareness Event
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one of many events during the month is a dinner being held this Tuesday at Daniel Stern's MidAtlantic Restaurant, in University City.
"I have had a longtime affiliation with Susan G. Komen (foundation)," owner Daniel Stern (below) said recently. "I was talking to the team at MidAtlantic as I was helping gather some donations for this year's Pink Tie Ball. We were brainstorming about what else could we do. We came up with the idea of doing a dinner with all female brewers."

One of the brewers is Whitney Thompson (top photo), from Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown.
"He contacted us wondering if a bunch of women that are here on the East Coast would be interested in forming a group together that would benefit the Komen foundation, and we all jumped on board," Thompson recalls.
She began her brewing career in Germany, and gave us on some tips on what beers go with what:
"So with the Otto (brand ale), you have the smoky notes. So it would go fantastic if you were doing a smoked sausage, or a smoked cheese or brat, something along those lines."
"It's going to be an eight-course menu," Stern says of this coming Tuesday's fundraiser. "On arrival you'll walk into a meet-and-greet with the brewers, and we'll have a little cocktail reception -- or beer reception as the case may be."
MidAtlantic Restaurant is located at 3711 Market Street, in University City. For more information about "The Women of Beer," click on this link.
