<em>Positively Philadelphia: </em> Tiffany Store Turns 20

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Happy anniversary wishes go out to Tiffany's, which opened up the Philadelphia branch of its iconic store twenty years ago, at 1414 Walnut Street, next to the Bellevue Hotel.

Why did the jewelry store forever associated with ritzy Fifth Avenue in New York City expand here?

"Like Tiffany itself, we are rich in heritage, rich in culture, and you can't get that anywhere like Philadelphia," says Karen Coleman, director of Tiffany and Company.

She says Tiffany's and Philadelphia go back a long way:

"Tiffany and Company started their relationship with Philadelphia in 1876, when Tiffany participated in the international exposition held here as part of the nation's centennial celebration."

Tiffany's has been featured in many movies, and sometimes they try to bring that movie magic to real life.

"We've had (wedding) engagements happen in this store, where we have tried to mimic movies like Sweet Home Alabama, where it's closed except to the person proposing with a silver tray of rings," Coleman said.

And who can forget the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's?  Coleman says, believe it or not, that people sometimes come into the Philadelphia store looking for breakfast... at Tiffany's.

"In our twenty years here in Philadelphia it has happened on occasion, where people come in looking to be served breakfast because they think there is in fact a breakfast at Tiffany's."
