Positively Philadelphia: Local Musicians Making A Difference For Kids

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Area residents Cris Valkyria and Lou Paglione are both music lovers, musicians, and parents, and together they have put together a CD for children.

"It all started with me trying to potty train my son," Cris (at left in photo) says.  "I realized I needed a theme song but I didn't like any of the songs out there for potty training, so I decided to make my own."

The songs on their "Cris & Lou" CD, which they wrote and sing, is designed to help children learn in a fun way.

For instance, one about getting your child to brush their teeth goes, "When I brush my teeth I brush them up and down, up and down, up and down..."

Some songs would be good for both children and adults:

(Lou, singing:)  "Good morning, good morning, good morning!"
(Cris, singing:)  "Good morning, good morning, good morning!"
(Lou:)  "The sun is up..."
(Cris:)  "...and so am I!"
(Together:)  "There's not a single cloud in the sky..."

Proceeds from the Cris & Lou CD project go to special children's groups.

"We didn't just want to create a CD and sell it and that's that," says Lou.  "We wanted to have a positive effect throughout the community; we wanted to touch as many people as possible."

The two also volunteer their time for the organization "Musicians On Call."

"That's an organization (through which) musicians go from room to room in hospitals," explains Cris.  She says she and Lou have volunteered at both Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, among others.

"We think it's just a good project to create a positive effect for someone," says Lou, "and we hope that someone can do it for someone else down the road."

That's "Positively Philadelphia!"
