Positively Philadelphia: A Student-Professional Collaboration For PIFA

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some plays start with a script. For others, you make it up as you go along.
" 'Time Machine: The Lost Hour' is a piece for the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts created by Philadelphia Young Playwrights in a unique collaboration that involves professional artists from the Philadelphia area, University of the Arts students, and also high school students from the Delaware Valley area," says professional director David Bradley (at left in photo).
And the months of improvisation, ideas, and work will come together in a play on April 24, 25, and 26 at the Kimmel Center.
"To be in a room where you have professional artists, and as a university student looking at people who are doing what you want to do, and then high school students who you get to mentor and they get to mentor you, it's breathtaking," says Joshua Campbell (center), a student who is part of the production team.

And Bradley, the director, says professionals learn something, too:
"I learn from students jumping into a rehearsal, getting an idea, sending something to a professional set designer who works around the country and saying, 'Here, try this.' "
Tess Kunick (right), who is studying acting at the University of the Arts and is part of the design crew, is thrilled to be taking part.
"It's been very exciting," she tells Positively Philadelphia. "It's my first thing outside the University of the Arts, and to be able to create something that's going to be in the Kimmel Center and part of PIFA is very, very exciting."
