Popemobile II For Sale In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is getting into the used car business. Sort of.
A four cylinder Fiat 500 4 door sedan with less than 500 miles on it is being sold in the name of charity. Not just any Fiat, mind you.
Complete Coverage: Papal Visit
This one is one of two that Pope Francis was driven around town in last year during his 2 day visit.
Archdiocesan spokesman Kenneth Gavin says proceeds will go to the church's mission.
"They would be split among Catholic Charities Appeal here in the Archdiocese and then three specific charities that we have in mind that are operations of Catholic Social Services," Gavin told KYW Newsradio.
The church tried to sell the car quietly, but a couple potential buyers couldn't come up with the asking price. That might be because the first Popemobile went for a high price to the Chapman family of auto dealers at auction.
"The winning bid for that was $82,000 at the auction in January," Gavin said. "So in terms of what's our asking price for this one, we'd certainly be looking to do better than $82,000 on the second car."

Don't bother haggling with him, though. He's just the middleman, but he'll put you in touch with the manager who cuts the deal.
