Details of Pope Francis' Visit to U.S., Including Philadelphia, Coming Together
By Mark Abrams
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Plans for what Pope Francis will do when he visits Philadelphia at the end of September are slowly starting to take shape.
It now appears that Philadelphia will be the final stop in a three-city US that will take the pope first to Washington, DC and New York City. A papal aide also suggested in an interview that the pope might want to visit a children's hospital or juvenile detention center in Philadelphia.
Today, Archbishop Charles Chaput (at right in photo), who is hosting the pope during the World Meeting of Families, says he has three items on the tentative agenda:
"I know there's going to be a stadium visit with young people and grandparents, there's going to be a festival of families on the (Benjamin Franklin) Parkway on Saturday, and there's going to be mass at the same venue on the Parkway on Sunday afternoon, at 3 o'clock."
Chaput says he's heading to Rome in two weeks to meet with the pope to firm up his agenda. And, he says, the pope's advance team will be here at the end of February or early March to finalize what Francis will do during his brief stay in Philadelphia.
