Poll: Most Americans Say Republicans Acted Like 'Spoiled Children' In Advance Of Shutdown
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Most Americans blame congressional Republicans for the partial government shutdown, likening their behavior to that of "spoiled children," says a new CNN poll.
The poll, which surveyed 803 Americans in advance of Tuesday's shutdown, reveals 46% percent would blame Republicans in Congress for a shutdown, while 36% would point fingers at President Obama. Just 13% hold both responsible.
In a similar vein, nearly half of those surveyed (49%) feel President Obama has acted like a responsible adult in the face of the budget battle, while 47% say he's acted like a spoiled child.
Finally, the majority of people feel both congressional Democrats and Republicans have behaved badly in advance of the shutdown. Fifty-eight percent say Democrats have acted like spoiled children, and 69% feel the same about Republicans.
And regardless of who's responsible for the shutdown, 60% of those surveyed felt Congress needed to find a way to come to an agreement and avoid a shutdown, which obviously didn't happen.
